Connecting Fynance to your AI assistant via MCP

Connect your company to a compatible AI assistant and ask about transactions, cash flow, and runway.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets a compatible AI assistant connect to Fynance and use your company data to answer questions. Instead of manually copying numbers into a chat, you authorize a connection to the company you want to analyze.

Find the connection address

In Fynance, open Settings → Connected apps in the left menu. The page shows the server address, installation instructions for the selected app, and a prompt you can copy.

The MCP server address is:

https://api.fynance.co/mcp

Each connection reaches one company. To use another company, connect again and select that company during authorization.

Connect your assistant

The screen includes guidance for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or another app. Custom MCP support and menu names depend on the app and your plan.

  1. Open Settings → Connectors (on some plans, Customize → Connectors).
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Paste https://api.fynance.co/mcp, name it Fynance, and save.
  4. Complete any requested sign-in, choose the company, and review the authorization.
  5. Enable the connection in a new chat.

For other assistants, choose your app in How to install and follow the displayed instructions. If your app or plan does not support custom MCP connections, it may not be able to use this server.

You can also copy the prompt shown on the page:

Install the Fynance MCP server at https://api.fynance.co/mcp and start using it.

This prompt asks the assistant to help with setup; you may still need to add the connector and authorize it yourself.

Example prompts

Specify the company, bank account, currency, and date range whenever relevant. These are example requests, not a guarantee that every assistant supports every action or file format.

Export transactions

Export all transactions from my bank account for the last 90 days. Include date, description, amount, currency, account, and category. If file export is available, generate a CSV; otherwise, show a table. Confirm whether all results were retrieved and identify any pagination or missing data.

Analyze cash flow

Analyze my cash flow over the last three months. Show monthly inflows, outflows, and net cash flow, identify the largest expenses, and compare the months. Separate transfers between my own accounts so they are not counted as revenue or expenses.

Calculate runway

What is my cash runway? Use my current available cash and average monthly net burn over the last three complete months. Show the formula, accounts and periods used, and any missing data. If there is no positive net burn, explain why a finite runway cannot be calculated with this method.

Runway estimates how many months your cash could last if the current spending pattern continues. A common calculation is available cash ÷ average monthly net burn. It is an estimate, not a guarantee or forecast of future revenue.

Review expenses and trends

  • "What were my ten largest expenses last month? Group them by category and compare them with the previous month."
  • "Which recurring expenses increased in the last 90 days? Show the transactions behind each finding."
  • "List uncategorized transactions this month and suggest categories for my review. Do not change anything."
  • "Compare this quarter’s cash inflows and outflows with the previous quarter. Explain any limitations in the data."
  • "Prepare a financial summary for my accountant with balances, cash movements, and items that need review."

Get reliable answers

Ask the assistant to show its source transactions, calculation method, and date range. Tell it not to invent missing numbers and to distinguish facts from assumptions. A cash inflow is not necessarily revenue: it could be a transfer or a loan.

Exports and analyses depend on the data available in Fynance, the tools exposed by the connection, and your assistant’s capabilities. A request alone does not grant additional permissions.

Only authorize apps you trust. Review which company you are connecting and the requested access. Never paste your password, access tokens, or private keys into a chat. Review the connected app’s data-handling policy before sharing financial information.

Troubleshooting

If the assistant cannot see your data, confirm the server address, finish sign-in and authorization, verify the selected company, and make sure the connector is enabled in the chat. If results are incomplete, specify an account and period and ask about retrieval limits.
