Managing Transactions
Review, confirm and categorize transactions, handle transfers, and add or import transactions.
A transaction counts in your reports only after you confirm its category. Fyn suggests a contact and category for every imported transaction; your job is to check and confirm.
Find your way around the Transactions page
- Tabs: Pending review (waiting for you), Confirmed, All transactions, and Transfers.
- Search by description, contact, category or status.
- Filters: date range, Active / Deleted, account (each bank account or Stripe) and category.
- The red badge next to Transactions in the sidebar shows how many items are pending.
Review and confirm a transaction
- Open Transactions and select the Pending review tab (or click Review on the Dashboard banner).
- Click a transaction's description to open Transaction Details.
- Check the Date, Amount, Contact (who you paid or who paid you), Type (for example, Expense) and Category (for example, Marketing Expenses). Change anything that is wrong.
- Edit the Description if you want a clearer note. The Bank account of an imported transaction cannot be changed.
- Click Confirm. The transaction moves to Confirmed and appears in your reports.
Shortcut: click Confirm directly on the row in the list. To undo, click Mark as pending on a confirmed row.
Confirm or delete in bulk
- Tick the checkbox on each row (or the header checkbox to select all on the page).
- In the bar that appears, click Confirm or Delete. Use Clear selection to start over.
- Deleted transactions are kept under the Deleted filter, so you can find them again.
Handle transfers between your own accounts
Money moving between your own accounts (for example, a Stripe payout to Mercury Checking) is a transfer, not revenue or expense.
- Fynance pairs both sides of a transfer automatically and suggests the link.
- Open the Transfers tab to see each pair: From, To, Date, Linked status and Amount.
- If a pair is wrong, click Not a transfer to unlink it, then categorize each side as a normal transaction.
- A transfer "awaiting its pair" waits until the other side is imported (see Transfers Awaiting Their Pair).
Add a transaction manually
- Click Add Transaction.
- Fill in Date, Contact (optional), Description, Type (Money Out or Money In), Amount, Bank account and Category. Add Notes if useful.
- Click Save Transaction.
Import transactions from a CSV file
- Click Import CSV.
- Click Download to get the template, or upload a Mercury CSV export directly.
- Make sure the file has headers and the required fields: date, description, amount, direction. Optional: contact, merchant_name. Dates use YYYY-MM-DD or MM-DD-YYYY. Direction must always be stated; it is never inferred from the amount sign.
- The destination bank account must use USD.
- Select the file and click Import Transactions. The new rows land in Pending review.
Use Refresh transactions at any time to pull the latest activity from your connected banks and Stripe.
